Shubukai Japanese Classical Dance 藤間流日本舞踊
For over 42 years, Founder Grandmaster Shunojo Fujima and his Fujima Ryu of Chicago(now known as Shubukai) have maintained and perpetuated the tradition and art of Japanese classical dance while preserving the aesthetic. The Fujima school is one of 5 main dance styles in Japan, and has its origins in Noh and the Kabuki theatre.
Toyoaki Shamisen 豊秋三味線
AIRMW’s Executive and Artistic Director Tatsu Aoki a.k.a Toyoaki Sanjuro was born and raised in a geisha house in Tokyo. The ozashiki music, (which includes shamisen, taiko, and shinobue) is the legacy which pervades throughout the music of Toyoaki Shamisen and Tsukasa Taiko.
Please come and experience our 3rd Annual collaboration between Japanese classical dance and live traditional music, perpetuating the legacy for performing arts diaspora here in the Midwest.
