Osaka Blues Woman Project
Yoko Noge, a blues singer/piano player in Chicago showcases blues women from Osaka, Japan.

Background:
In 70’s, new bleed of musicians emerged in Japan. The influence came from the blues music from the US.
First it was rock music in 60’s and blues followed. Mostly young university students fell in love with blues with a backdrop of students movement, mainly protest against Japanese government’s support of US Government that was fighting Vietnam war.

Late 70’s Yoko Noge, then a college student was one of the very few women blues singers in Japan.
She released her first LP album from Japan Victor. Her single SP blues record [Ossan Nani Surunnya-what do you think you’re doing], a protest song against grouping in the commuting trains, made a smash hit.

Now 40 years later, Noge who now lives in Chicago found many women blues players are emerging and professionally playing in versions venues in Osaka. When she was in Osaka, she gathered these women and played music together.
Now back in Chicago, Yoko is showcasing the Osaka Blues Women.
