The 2026 Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy will take place on Saturday, June 20, at Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown, following the Dragon Boat Festival on Friday, June 19.

This annual event brings together teams from across the region for an exciting day of dragon boat racing along the Chicago River. Set in the heart of Chinatown, the race offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the energy and traditions of this important cultural holiday.

While enjoying the races, attendees are encouraged to explore Chinatown and immerse themselves in its rich cultural atmosphere, from historic landmarks to local shops and community spaces. The event celebrates heritage, community spirit, and one of the most iconic traditions in Chinese culture.

Admission is free for spectators. Teams are invited to participate through advance registration.

The Chinese Dragon Boat Race dates back to over 2,000 years and is a popular sport among Chinese and Asian communities all over the world. Started in 2000, the Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy is a family-fun activity enjoyed by visitors from all over the city and surrounding suburbs.

The Dragon Boat Race for Literacy has been successfully held by Chinatown Chamber for the past 20 years, which carries over the spirit of Chicago, promotes Asian culture, and aims to help the neighborhood literacy programs.
