A group of teenagers spend a summer making art in Satoko Yokohama’s offbeat portrayal of a small coastal town

Japan | Drama | 2025 | 140 minutes

In Japanese w/ English Subtitles

Director/Screenwriter: Satoko Yokohama

Starring: Konosuke Harada, Kumiko Aso, Kengo Kora, Erika Karata, Koharu Sugawara

Film Source: Tokyo Theatres Company

A small seaside town has been attracting artists from all over the country. During one summer, a group of teenagers put their own creative minds into motion with different art projects while adults fumble in their pursuit of elusive answers.

Defying traditional conventions of narrative storytelling, Satoko Yokohama’s adaptation of Gin Miyoshi’s manga is an offbeat and gently funny hang-out movie that moves at its own leisurely pace. With plenty of whimsy and heart to spare, this idiosyncratic and sunlit celebration of adolescent creativity will encourage young viewers to explore the artist within them.
