Event Date: May 19 (6PM)

In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, CPL is pleased to welcome historian and activist Scott Kurashige to discuss his new book, American Peril: The Violent History Of Anti-Asian Racism. Scott Kurashige is an award-winning historian, author, and ethnic studies scholar whose work bridges academic research and public engagement. He is the author of The Shifting Grounds of Race, winner of the American Historical Association’s Beveridge Award, and co-author (with Grace Lee Boggs) of The Next American Revolution.
His new book, American Peril, traces more than 175 years of anti-Asian violence in the United States, from exclusion-era lynchings and U.S. military violence abroad to the surge in anti-Asian hate during the COVID-19 pandemic. At a moment when immigration, nationalism, and racial violence are once again at the center of public debate, the book offers essential historical context for understanding how these dynamics have shaped American life and continue to do so today. Just as importantly, it highlights the long tradition of resistance, coalition-building, and multiracial solidarity that has emerged in response.
How to Attend:
