In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn and experience the art of creating a beautiful fan painting in the traditional Chinese style. Our students learn about the subjects commonly depicted in fan paintings, such as landscapes, flowers, birds, and insects, and their symbolic meanings in Chinese culture. Our experienced instructor will guide you through the fundamental techniques of Chinese brushwork. You will learn how to hold and manipulate the brush to achieve various brushstrokes, ranging from thin and delicate lines to bold and expressive strokes. These techniques will allow you to bring life and energy to your artwork.

You will explore the composition principles used in fan painting. You'll learn how to create a balanced and harmonious composition using the "three perfections" of painting, poetry, and calligraphy. The instructor will provide insights into traditional Chinese aesthetics and guide you in arranging your subject matter on the fan.

Color is an essential element in fan painting, and you will learn how to use ink and subtle washes of color to create depth and dimension in your artwork. The instructor will demonstrate different techniques for achieving various effects, such as gradations and textures.

In this workshop, you can practice your brushwork and experiment with different subjects and compositions. The instructor will provide individual guidance and feedback, helping you develop your artistic style.

To complete your fan painting, you will have the option to incorporate calligraphy and inscriptions. You'll learn the basics of Chinese calligraphy and explore the techniques of how to create meaningful phrases, poems, or your name using traditional Chinese brush and ink.

By the end of the workshop, you will have created a stunning fan painting that reflects the beauty and spirit of traditional Chinese art. You will take home a piece of artwork and a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and the artistic techniques passed down through generations.
