For this year’s Summer Screenings, The Chicago Film Festival will be hosting free virtual screenings of foreign films that celebrate sports and games from around the world. This will happen every Wednesday at 6:30PM CT until September 29, 2021.

One of the featured films is We Are Champions (Xia ban chang). A film released in 2019 from Taiwan, directed by Jung-chi Chang.


This will be available streaming starting September 15, 2021 at 6:30pm CT, with a 24-hour watch window. Additionally, they will be featuring a livestream Q&A with director Jung-chi Chang on the streaming platform at 8:45pm CT following the film.

This is free and open to the public but limited tickets are available. So, hurry and reserve yours now!



SYNOPSIS

Tung-hao and Hsiu-yu are living on the fringes of society, struggling to help their family make ends meet. When a video of the brothers playing basketball goes viral, the two become coveted recruits for the annual High School Basketball League championship. After an argument between the two causes a rift in their relationship, they join separate rival squads in the leadup to the big tournament. When they cross paths in the biggest game of the year, the brothers discover that some things in life are more important than basketball.
