GABRIELA-Chicago is celebrating International Working Women's Month with our founding assembly. We will introduce our first executive committee, give cultural performances, and welcome our keynote speaker, Tinay Palabay, Secretary General of Karapatan, a human rights alliance in the Philippines.

GABRIELA National Alliance of Women was founded in the Philippines in 1984 and is a grassroots-based alliance of more than 200 organizations, institutions, desks and programs of women all over the Philippines and the world seeking to wage a struggle for the liberation of all oppressed Filipino women and the rest of our people. While we vigorously campaign on women-specific issues such as women's rights, gender discrimination, violence against women and women's health and reproductive rights, GABRIELA is also at the forefront of national and international economic and political issues that affect women. As an overseas chapter, GABRIELA-Chicago is dedicated to extending this mass movement to the United States, and working with the Filipino community and our solidarity allies to oust the U.S.-Duterte Regime.

Our keynote speaker is Tinay Palabay!
She is the Secretary General of Karabatan, a national alliance working for the promotion and protectuob of human rights in the Philippines. She is also known for her advocacy for women’s rights as former Secretary General of Gabriela women’s party. Palabay is also a lesbian activist, being a board member of Kapederasyon, an organization of LGBTQ+ folks in the Philippines.
