This Friday, April 2nd from 1-3pm CST we are holding a virtual healing space for Asian CPS students to process recent instances of anti-Asian violence, in light of the mass shooting in Atlanta, and other incidences of racially motivated attacks.
We invite all CPS students who identify as Asian to our space, which includes South Asian, South East Asian, East Asian, and multiethnic/multiracial Asian students. Gathering together to process our grief and rage is necessary for healing, especially as spaces that center our identities are rare. During our workshop, we will contextualize these instances of violence in broader US Asian-American history, provide dedicated time for small-group healing circles, and share learnings and reflections.
This space is being organized and led by KINETIC youth leaders, who are immigrant and refugee youth currently attending CPS high schools, with the support of adult allies. KINETIC is a youth organizing program for immigrant and refugee students, which is part of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago.
