Here we meet at the convergence of Filipino American History Month and ~spooky season~ come celebrate an all Filipinx/a/o line up of performers on Sunday, October 23rd at First Sip Cafe (1057 W Argyle St, Chicago, IL 60640). Doors will open at 6:30pm! We will have a smaller number of open mic slots this time, and performers can sign up on site. As a reminder, Luya centers the voices of people of color for our open mic sign up. Our suggested donation is $5, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds!

This month’s theme is a nod to the aswang, the notorious shapeshifters, the wicked creatures looming in the darkness of Filipino myths. Are they magical beings, or demons, or something else entirely? This October we honor our transformations — the monstrous, the mythic, and everything between.

First Sip has one small step at the entrance, and a single stall gender neutral bathroom. We will be checking vax cards at the door and will require all attendees to wear masks unless they are actively performing. We highly recommend that people take a COVID test beforehand.
