1965, Japan. The government passes a new anti-prostitution law that only applies to woman, thus creating a loophole for transgender female prostitutes, who are legally male and nicknamed “blue boys”. Out of frustration, the police arrest the doctor who performed gender-affirming surgeries on blue boys, resulting in a trial that sparks a national debate about authenticity and happiness.

Based on the incredible true court case, this empathetic fact-based drama reveals a key moment in history that shaped Japan’s attitude towards the LGBT community today. Made by a transgender director with a transgender cast, this powerfully acted film hopes that revisiting pains of the past can inspire people to change the future for the better.
