Event Date: September 25, 2026 (12PM)

Indira Johnson is invited by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) to create the Community Blessings Rangoli as part of the annual Ragamala Festival. Rangoli is a South Asian folk-art tradition in which a woman traditionally begins the day by creating a pattern at the threshold of her home. More than decoration, the Rangoli is a ritual of welcome, protection, and well-being—a way of honoring the ground beneath us and recognizing our place within a larger universe. Everyone is invited to participate in creating one large, collective Rangoli. Our goal is to discover through dialogue, art and ritual the commonality of our human experience, and the spiritual potential inherent in all of us. Friday, 9/25 from noon -8pm One pattern. Many hands. One shared hope for peace.
