Conversation with Community Partners on: Serving Undocumented Immigrants in Chicago

These are the 3 organizations that will be part of the conversation

Asian Americans Advancing Justice

Advancing Justice | AAJC is the voice for the Asian American community – the fastest-growing population in the U.S. – fighting for our civil rights through education, litigation, and public policy advocacy. We serve to empower our communities by bringing local and national constituencies together and ensuring Asian Americans are able to participate fully in our democracy.

Centro Romero

For over 35 years, Centro Romero has been a community-based organization that serves the refugee immigrant population on the northeast side of Chicago. . . Our long-term organizational goal is to bridge a disenfranchised community of immigrants and refugees into mainstream American society as well as improving their opportunity for upward social mobility.

Centro Romero’s Latin American Legal Assistance Services Program (LALAS) provides Direct Service Representation, Immigration Education, and Advocacy Services to low-income, primarily Spanish-speaking immigrant community members. By assisting persons in attaining lawful permanent residency and United States citizenship, the LALAS Program directly enhances the person, the family, and the greater community.

OCAD

Organized Communities Against Deportations (OCAD) is an undocumented-led group that organizes against deportations, detention, criminalization, and incarceration, of Black, brown, and immigrant communities in Chicago and surrounding areas. Through grassroots organizing, legal and policy work, direct action and civil disobedience, and cross-movement building, we aim to defend our communities, challenge the institutions that target and dehumanize us, and build collective power. We fight alongside families and individuals challenging these systems to create an environment for our communities to thrive, work, and organize with happiness and without fear.

Looking forward to having a productive conversation about the ways that DePaul and the greater Chicago community can aid these organization to create a stronger society!
