Presented annually by the Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Foundation, the Justice John Paul Stevens Award recognizes attorneys and judges who exemplify the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice’s legacy of fairness, public service, and profound devotion to the rule of law. It stands as one of the most significant honors in the Illinois legal community, reserved for those whose work advances equal justice and strengthens the very integrity of the profession.

Aurora Austriaco’s recognition is a testament to her remarkable journey as an immigrant, a top litigator, and a visionary leader. Beyond her immense success in commercial litigation and real estate law, Austriaco has long been a champion for diversity and mentorship. She made history as the first Asian American president of the Chicago Bar Association and continues to be an incredible role model for young lawyers from underrepresented backgrounds. Her impactful work continues to open doors for others while upholding the principles Justice Stevens so deeply valued.

Joining Austriaco in receiving this coveted award were John Bouman of Legal Action Chicago, Chief Judge Virginia Kendall of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Michael Lufrano of the Chicago Cubs, and Professor Michael Seng of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.

Together, these outstanding honorees embody the enduring spirit of Justice Stevens, reminding us all that law, at its best, is a lifelong commitment to integrity, service, and justice for all.
