In a musical known for its rebellious energy, psychedelic spectacle, and unforgettable songs, Crissy offers something quieter. Her solo, “Frank Mills,” is a wistful moment about a brief encounter and the hope of finding that connection again.
In Kokandy Productions’ 2026 production of HAIR, that role belongs to Amy Yesom Kim, a Chicago-based actor whose résumé ranges from musical theatre to television.
Directed and choreographed by Brennan Urbi, Kokandy’s production brings the 1960s counterculture musical into a contemporary Chicago setting. Kim joins the cast as Crissy, with “Frank Mills” giving her one of the production’s more intimate moments.

Meet Crissy
Crissy is part of the loose-knit community of young people at the center of HAIR. While the musical is filled with characters who challenge authority, question social conventions, and grapple with the Vietnam War, Crissy’s story is more personal. Her solo turns a fleeting romantic encounter into a small but memorable search for connection.
For Kim, the role adds another chapter to a Chicago theatre career that began after she moved from Seattle to study Musical Theatre at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. She graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre and has continued building her career across the city.
Her recent theatre credits include The Targeted and Veal at A Red Orchid Theatre and The Snow Queen at Marriott Theatre. Kim was an understudy for Mia in The Targeted and Noa in Veal, while Marriott Theatre lists her among the understudies for The Snow Queen. She has also appeared in The Stinky Cheese Man and other Fairly Stupid Tales and Frindle with Griffin Theatre, as well as Kokandy’s The Spongebob Musical, where she played Karen the Computer.
Now, she moves into a very different kind of role with Crissy, whose spotlight comes not through spectacle but through vulnerability.
Beyond the Stage
Kim’s work also extends to television. In January 2026, she appeared as Jen in the Season 14 episode of Chicago Fire, “Frostbite Blue.”
In an earlier Kokandy bio, Kim said she is passionate about making space for marginalized voices and hopes to uplift those stories throughout her theatre career. When she isn’t acting, she says she enjoys video editing, indoor gardening, and creating “aesthetically pleasing spreadsheets.”
Now, Kim brings that range of experience to HAIR, a musical that continues to ask questions about community, identity, freedom, and what it means to find your place among other people. Kokandy describes its 2026 production as an exploration of identity, community, global responsibility, and peace.
