Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series is gearing up for even bigger adventures in Seasons 2 and 3, and the newly announced cast members are bringing fresh excitement to the beloved story. We are excited to see how these new characters will deepen the show’s world and expand its cultural richness.
Let’s start with some of the exciting new additions. Madison Hu joins the cast as Fei, while Dichen Lachman will take on the powerful role of Avatar Yangchen, one of Aang’s past lives. Acclaimed actress Dolly De Leon has been cast in a dual role, portraying the mysterious twin firebenders, Lo and Li. Lily Gao steps in as Ursa, Zuko’s mother, and Terry Chen will bring the firebending master Jeong Jeong to life.
Also joining the cast is Jon Jon Briones as Piandao, a master swordsman who plays an important role in Sokka’s journey, and Tantoo Cardinal, who will portray Hama—a complex character with a chilling backstory from the Southern Water Tribe. Their presence adds emotional depth and further expands the story beyond the main trio of Aang, Katara, and Sokka.
Season 2 is set to focus heavily on the Earth Kingdom, with major characters from Ba Sing Se and beyond entering the scene. Chin Han will play Long Feng, the influential (and manipulative) leader of the secretive Dai Li. Justin Chien has been cast as King Kuei, the Earth Kingdom’s young monarch, and Amanda Zhou will portray Joo Dee, the ever-smiling city guide fans may remember from the original series.
More fan-favorite characters are making their debut too. Crystal Yu will appear as Lady Beifong, mother of the legendary Toph Beifong. Wrestling fans will be happy to hear that The Boulder, the charismatic earthbending fighter, will be played by Kelemete Misipeka. Rounding out the Earth Kingdom cast is Lourdes Faberes as General Sung, a military leader we’ll likely see clashing with some of our heroes.
With such a diverse and talented lineup, the live-action series is staying true to the spirit of the original animated show while adding new layers of storytelling and representation. Production is already underway, and fans have plenty to look forward to. Whether it’s political intrigue in Ba Sing Se, thrilling battles across the Fire Nation, or emotional reunions in the Water Tribes, the upcoming seasons are shaping up to be a rich continuation of the Avatar saga.
As we await the return of Aang and his friends, one thing’s clear: the world of Avatar is only getting bigger—and better.
