If you’re not familiar with the James Beard Foundation Awards then you are missing out. After the death of notable TV personality and American chef James Beard, for 32 years since its first inception in 1991, the awards was a way to honor all those who have helped elevate, support, and have made an impact to all those people that make up and are behind the continuous rise of the Food Culture especially in the United States. Practically known as the Oscars of the Culinary Industry, the foundation continuously aims to recognize those who have contributed greatly to the Food and Beverage community by bringing the industry to a whole other level.

Despite facing some backlash due to some recent controversial issues from 2020 and 2021, the foundation has charged on and since then has developed a new code of ethics that heavily takes and considers diversity, inclusivity as well as the chef’s behavior. Taking place at the Lyric Opera of Chicago during the first week of this month, it was worth noting that during the event, Asian American Chefs, Individuals, and Groups dominated the James Beard Foundation Food and Media Awards, bagging a lot of recognition. From the Food awards, out of the 12 best regional chef categories a total of 8 Asian American chefs won the awards and from the Media awards, 10 Asian individuals and 1 Asian Group won from a total of 44 categories.
